The Protocols of the Elders of Zion

1903

This bogus hate crime was created by Christians to make themselves out to be victims of a Jewish conspiracy, for the purpose of gaining themselves an excuse for anti-Semitic behavior.

At first it might seem out of place to see The Protocols of the Elders of Zion listed here among phony hate crimes but this fabricated text is the very epitome of a hate crime hoax, demonstrating not only vicious malevolence on the part of its perpetrators but also showing, through the sheer immensity of the resulting horror, the terrible consequences of creating phony hate crimes; as well as the flabbergasting endurance that falsehoods of this sort can display—this one, after all, being a century old and still boasting millions of believers around the world.
“If ever a piece of writing could produce mass hatred, it is this one...  This book is about lies and slander.” —Elie Wiesel, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion was created in about 1903 in Russia, probably by a man named Sergei Nilus at the behest of the Czarist government.  It was fabricated in part by plagiarizing two novels, one French and the other German, and published as the purported “protocols,” or minutes, of a meeting of Jewish leaders who indiscreetly blab about how they plan to take over the world and turn everybody who isn’t Jewish into slaves.

Because naturally when you are involved in a grand conspiracy to secretly conquer the world, the first thing you do is talk about it in front of hundreds of other people at a meeting, and take minutes, and have those minutes published, right?

Eventually the fabrication was translated into other languages and spread around the world, the first English translation being published in about 1920, the most widely-read version being Victor Emile Marsden’s.  Which is when Henry Ford fell for the scam.  He was so alarmed by what he read, he funded the publishing of 500,000 copies.  He must have thought he was a modern-day Paul Revere: “The Jews are coming!  The Jews are coming!”

Defenders of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion love to mention Henry Ford, as though his gullibility somehow turns falsehood into truth.  What they fail to mention is that by 1927 Henry Ford had admitted his mistake and condemned the book.

Being rich doesn’t necessarily make you smart.  That’s especially true for the Ford family—look at what they’ve done with the Detroit Lions.

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion has been used as fodder to foment anti-Semitism for over a century, used as ammunition in the justification for the Holocaust by Nazi Germany, inspired the Jewish Autonomous Oblast and relocation of Jews by Stalin in the U.S.S.R., and is used by Muslim zealots to justify terrorism against Israel and Jews everywhere.

All of which is amazing, pathetic, and sad, considering the book has been proven fraudulent time and again by historians, literary experts, and various government agencies of the United States (including, in 1961, the CIA); and the book was even ruled fraudulent by a Swiss court in 1935, the judge stating:
“I hope that one day there will come a time when no one will any longer comprehend how in the year 1935 almost a dozen fully sensible and reasonable men could for fourteen days torment their brains before a court of Berne over the authenticity or lack of authenticity of these so-called Protocols... that, for all the harm they have already caused and may yet cause, are nothing but ridiculous nonsense.”
Unfortunately, judge, to paraphrase an old saying, no one ever went broke overestimating the intelligence of bogus hate crime lovers.
